Hey all,

Finally getting my husband to Big Bend National Park this winter IF we get a tent site tomorrow when it opens up. Our skoolie is too big for in the park and the RV spots outside are RIDICULOUSLY EXPENSIVE ($177/night+). So I figured we have room in the budget to really do some "glamping" by getting a big roomy tent and a very nice thick pad of some sort. He's 6'3" and we currently sleep on a queen sized mattress. Since we are not CARRYING any of this gear, weight is not an issue. Comfort is more important so we both get a good night's sleep so we can do lots of hiking during the day. Looking at December for BBNP. We will likely just use our blankets so we can snuggle. He's a great heat source! I've been to BBNP in December before so I'm not too worried about the temps getting too low.

So we want a really roomy tent, possibly so we can nearly stand up. Should we go free standing? 3 season? 4 season? And a thick, maybe foam pad (like the Hest Dually?).

What are your recommendations?

(and to think my pack is at 20 lbs for 4 days of backpacking!)
