I did this section in June a couple of years ago and did not have any water problems.
I am not young enough to know everything.
Lots of water unless there is a big drought. Should be a wonderful trip at a great time of year.
I'm not really a hiker, I just play one on White Blaze.
It's a Great Section!! ~Enjoy~

By Sept. some water sources may be dry.Post again little closer to your hike date....Now no water between Little Laurel and Spring Mtn shelters....
Thanks for the input, ill chk back when date is closer. Also any idea if there is shuttle or taxi service from hot springs to near Erwin at trail head? Looking to just park in hot springs
Bluff Mountain Outfitters in Hot Springs has a shuttle service with reasonable rates.
I'm in Erwin and can pick you up in Hot Springs and shuttle you back to Erwin.
I've used Bluff Mt. a few times myself and they're good too.
Hot Springs to Erwin is one of my fav's...awesome section
Just got home from doing this section from this past Saturday to Wednesday. Water was plentiful everywhere and even some springs that were not in my guide. Awesome section, you will love it.
P.S. Thanks for the shuttle 10-K! I made it back to Uncle Johnny's Wednesday before lunch.
You mentioned a guide? What guide would you guys recommend? Particularly for this section?
Plan to spend several hours to even a whole day at Max Patch...if you can, arrange to be there at dark so you can look at the stars.
The "guide" that hikernutcasey mentioned would likely be one of the books below. Each of these books covers the entire AT, not just a particular section, and are valuable resources. You should also carry a trail map for your section.
http://www.theatguide.com/ a.k.a. AWOL's guide or databook

If possible, add two days and start at Davenport Gap. Bears Den Hostel can ru shuttle and then you get to take in Max Patch. An area so cool that people use it as their handle on White Blaze. Really worth the extra time!!
Also, Section guides are available from ATC. They are a bit heavy, but offer good information on the trail.
If you have time in Hot Springs-make time!-, eat at The Diner! Follow the AT bronze blazes on the sidewalk south through town. The Diner is on the right just past a service station on the corner.
If you're rushed for time, hit the Hot Springs Resort Store for ice cream, candy & munchies.
Have a great trip!
