Freeze dried scrambled eggs, freeze dried mushrooms, freeze dried refried beans, freeze dried cheese, and some hot sauce all wrapped in a tortilla is really yummy. You can get the freeze dried stuff in #10 cans from Honeyville and repackage it into meals a lot cheaper than buying mountain house meals and they are actually palatable unlike most commercial freeze dried meals.

That said I often just grab a granola bar and make a quick exit.

Love their freeze dried mushrooms. I keep a can for everyday cooking.

I agree with Posternut; putting in a hour's hike before breakfast makes a lot of sense. Think about it: break down your dinner kit the night before after dinner and pack it up; next morning the only "chore" is breaking down and packing camp. You get up and moving much faster. After about an hour or so, you're ready for a break anyway, so find a pleasant spot for a long break, break out the stove, oatmeal, coffee. This is esp good in cold weather--don't drag out the torture of getting out of the warm bag---just pack it up, get moving, and get warm.

    Schmoosli. is granola folks.
Dogs are excellent judges of character, this fact goes a long way toward explaining why some people don't like being around them.
