He crosses it like a champ. I prefer to undo my chest and waist straps though. I also usually step into the lowest areas so that it's impossible for me to slip, but then again I'm less likely to get pushed by the current because I probably weigh twice as much as your boy.
In a possible bad ford situation I would agree on unhooking chest and waist straps. I'll work on his technique because we hope to do the John Muir Trail together sometime in the next couple of years.

You guys will kill it on the JMT. I bet you'll be amused at how easily you catch up and leave people behind while they stop to remove their boots.
Sure footed young fellow, for certain.

Thanks for the posting, Rock. Whenever I think of tough Slickrock crossings I think of these Youtubes from a guy named Gsindall---
I'm sure you've seen these classics before.
I have more difficulty crossing high water creeks than most because my dang pack is usually in the 70 lb or more range. A heavy pack makes all the difference.
I need to add those to the BMTA channel.

That looks very much like the Abrams Creek crossing at the Hannah Mt. Trail when we did the Abrams Falls loop last month.
The Slickrock Wilderness is on our list.
Thanks
Hey Rock, remember when there was this old log across the BMT Slickrock crossing? Didn't you once cross the creek on this log? I would've snapped my neck for sure.
This is my backpacking buddy Johnny Be in 2005 checking out the BMT crossing on Slickrock. Of course by now and after a dozen floods the log is gone.
BTW, if you go upstream from this crossing about 100 feet you reach a fantastic swim hole next to a sandy "beach" and a perfect place for a flea bath.

Thanks, SGT Rock! I may be over there soon, so good to see what's what.

One more pic to share showing the power of Slickrock in flood conditions---
This rock was pushed downstream in a flood. It's not a small rock, either. It's at the Stiffknee jct on Slickrock Creek.
