Default Clothes for N Georgia section this Memorial Weekend

Getting the pack together, and these are the clothes I'm bringing. Any suggestions?

    From bottom to top, wearing:

    Oboz Boots
    Wigwam Merino Silk Hiking socks

Jockey synthetic boxer briefs (love these, no chafing!)
Columbia Sportswear Synthetic Cargo shorts (built-in belt)

Under Armor synthetic t-shirt, short sleeve
    Bandanna

    In the clothes bag:

    Long sleeve synthetic tshirt
North Face lightweight fleece 'shirt' (it's more of a thin pullover sweater/jacket)
    Synthetic long pants
Merino Wool Base Layer long sleeve shirt
Merino Wool Base Layer pants (long john style)
    Columbia Sportswear rain jacket
    Marmot Precip Rain Hat
Second pair of Merino Silk socks
    Crocs sandals

I'm hoping I don't need any other type of jacket this weekend up in the mountains. A few weeks ago I was out on a trip where it got down to 17 degrees at night, slept in my wool base layer with socks on, in my 25 degree down bag, and was fine. And I prefer the wool base layer as my camp shirt anyways, unless it's really hot.

Looks like too much IMHO. I'm hiking a little north of you this weekend. Wearing shorts (w/liner) and short sleeve t-shirt. Taking light weight wind pants, underware, L/S shirt, Montbell Thermawrap, spare socks, warm hat, rainjacket, and croc knock offs. Many will tell me I have too much, but I like a complete change of clothes in camp.

Possible to get temps as low as 40*, not likely, but still I think these are excessive.

I just finished from neel gap to standing indian, NC. I had padagonia running shorts, the 70s style ones that are nuthuggers. Then wore a sleeveless nike dryfit top. Packed a base top and bottom lightweight. Shells were a Northface venture jacket with REI rainpants, I used the pants in the morning when temps were below 50. I also packed a down jacket and only used it two times. One night on blue mountain it got down to 28 degrees with the wind, that was over a week ago though.

...ummm, just checked the forecast for this weekend in the area I'll be hiking (Franklin, NC, Weather.com). Supposed to be lows in the mid 40's down in the valleys. Glad I'm bringing my WM Megalite.

Hey, daddytwosticks, thanks for the heads up, just checked the forecast for SW Virginia and looks like lows in the high 30s Friday night and low 40s Saturday, then warming to 50-ish after that. Will add my microfleece pullover and possibly some light wool long johns. (I was just bringing shorts and t-shirts based on last year's hike.)

...maybe the "last" cold front of the season down here.

That's what I'm thinking, too, based on spring being about 3 weeks later around here.

Saturday (5-25 ) low projected 46 for Blairsville -15 miles from Neel Gap-- ( -6/7 degrees) in ridgeline . Last week during patrols lows were in the 60's . Typical shoulder seasons where the temps are up and down . Be prepared for all spring weather . Rain /precipitation can come anytime . Have fun.

Packing the gear up this morning, ditching the extra long sleeve synthetic tshirt. I figure my wool shirt (which is actually a lightweight base layer, not long john-heavy) and my fleece pullover will be enough. If it's not, I'll just crawl into my sleeping bag and wait for the sun.

Getting ready to leave this afternoon going north from Mooney Gap to the NOC. Lows Friday night/Saturday morning in Franklin are predicted to be 33 F and windy. Sounds like March weather!

Yeah. The weather in SW Virginia calls for upper 30s Friday night and mid 40s the next couple of nights at elevation. Definitely will be testing the lower limit of my new 40F quilt in my hammock. Should be a great hike, though.
