    Default AT Elevation Profiles Online?

This has been an issue before, "Mr. Parkay" online elevation profile website going down or coming back as "forbidden" - it's gone away before, then come back, this time looks like gone for good. Anybody know of an alternative site for elevation profiles online?

It looks like the Parkay maps website (http://parkaymaps.110mb.com/) has issues. I have a 6 MB, 29 page PDF that I believe came from there once upon a time. I would be glad to email it to you if needed. Just let me know.

That's strange. For years this profile was so readily available online; now it seems to be almost impossible. I have to wonder why. When I followed the link above; the website that it points to says, "The document 'Appalachian Trail Elevation Profiles' has been deleted"

    Default This might help...

I made up a PDF document containing graphs of the AT elevation profiles, by state, based on the shelter locations. The graphs were made in Excel and pasted over to a Word document and then converted to PDF format. The data was taken from the "AT Data and Schedules" Menu found on the WB home page. Click on the "Appalachian Trail Shelters, Mileage and Coordinates" listing under the AT Articles - Data and Schedules to get the complete, recently revised listing.

The PDF document attachment to this post is 20 pages long, but you can just print out the pages you need. If you need the GPS coordinates, see the complete, revised listing:

    The UT AT shelter website
    http://web.eecs.utk.edu/~dunigan/at/
has elevation profiles for each shelter (profile to next (N) shelter), and there is a shelter elevation profile

    Default A tease...

I have been working on a comprehensive series of elevation charts for the AT, by states, for a couple of weeks. I, or attroll, will be posting it, as an article, in the near future.

Just to keep you curious, and possible exhausted, I have calculated that the total ascents and descents of the AT are equal to 12 Mt. Everests up, and 12 Mt. Everests down. (Mt.Everest is 29,000 feet high...you do the math! )

There is a zip file with the ATC 2009 GPS centerline track (lat, lon) and USGS/NED digital elevation data for each track point at
    http://web.eecs.utk.edu/~dunigan/at/atelev.html
You can do your own elevation analysis from the zip file. Web page shows cumulative climb of 526664' for all of AT, that's about a 5% grade.

Section and state elevation data also can be found on thread

Check out http://hikerplaces.org. Pick your section of the AT here: http://hikerplaces.org/wiki/Category...alachian_Trail and there is an elevation profile gadget at the bottom of the page. Click and drag in the bottom thing to zoom in.

I have just posted the following 7 part series of articles:

Appalachian Trail Elevations by States and Sections

They are found in this area of the website:

AT Articles - Data and Schedules

Here is a direct link to the article(s):

    http://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/content.php?19-data-and-schedules

(BTW, I recalculated the data. An AT thru hike is equal to 11 Mt. Everests up and 11 Mt. Everests down.)
