    Default Hiker Death

Apparently a thru hiker has been killed in Abingdon and we are trying to track down his belongings. His trail name was Biscuit. We are looking for his belongings. Does anyone here know him?

No details. I have spoken to his mother and with her permission I am attempting to find out as much as I can and where his tent and pack is.

Default Thru-Hiker Killed Today in Abington?

I saw a FB post about a thru-hiker killed in Abington today. Does anyone know if this is true? What happened? It listed a trail name of Biscuit and the man's name, but I hesitate to put it on here as I don't know if family has been notified or it is even true. Anyone know if thi is correct?

How horrible. Condolences to his family and good luck to you, TOW, in finding his belongings.

    Ugh. That's horrible.

Do we at least know if there could be danger to other hikers (murder, predator, etc...), or is this an unfortunate but isolated event (lightning, hypothermia, fall, drowning, allergic reaction, heart attack, etc...), or do we just not know?

At this point, the word "killed" might be inappropriate because we don't know the cause of death.

TOW, I don't know him, but check out Quahog's Journal, (ignore that title that says it's his 2013 hike; the post is dated April 16, 2013. Use the "find" feature with Biscuit as the search term (or just scroll down to the second paragraph. Maybe you can contact Quahog and ask him.

Everyone else, TOW said in the 3rd post that he has spoken with Biscuit's mother. Therefore, I'm sure he did not misuse the term "killed", and also, obviously, the family has been contacted.

    Let's be thoughtful here.

Thank you for doing this TOW. Good luck. Such sorrow.

    From his facebook page:

To all my dads Facebook friends this is his daughter Whitley. As you all know he has been hiking the Appalachian Trail for the past few weeks. Today May 14th 2013 we were notified that he had even found unresponsive & pronounced dead. We will let you know more when we find out about arrangements. Thanks & keep my family in your prayers — with Whitley Dee Keasler.

I know the hikers mother and have heard been told that they know nothing yet other than the body was sent off.

    My condolences to the family.

I hope it was not a homicide....

A couple years ago, we spent time on the trail with Scott A. Lily (Stonewall), who was later found dead - and it was ruled a homicide.

    Such a shame!

RIP Scott A - may they still find out who did it some day!
