Default Tent sites near Bearwallow Gap?

Hiking on AT near Blue Ridge Pkwy this weekend. Any one know if there are any good spots to camp for the evening near Bearwallow Gap? One of us will have a tent and needs some flat area to pitch for the evening. Of course...., us hammock guys need not worry about this do we?

If I were you guys, I'd stay at Bobblets Gap Shelter for the night. Is the BRP closed? If it is, you are out of luck for Bobblets. Hum... I don't recall any good flat places to pitch a tent or hang but I wouldn't be surprised if you could find something.... Are you heading North or South?

We are heading northbound. Starting in Daleville with a stop at Wilson Creek on the first night and will probably be too early in the day to stop at Bobblets Gap Shelter. Looking to make it to Bearwallow on the second night.

Last I heard the BRP was closed and may be for sure if this weekend brings snow. Any idea on of snow cover presently? Only place I can get a forecast is from either Daleville or Buchanon, which is at a much lower elevation.

    Thanks.

I would say you may see some patches of snow on the trail. Nothing to worry about, tho. As far as a place to tent near Bearwallow I would say you should be able to find something before you hit the BRP. Right after you cross Rt. 43 heading up from Bearwallow, the trail goes up for about a mile or so. Then it levels out, you may be able to find a spot before you would come to Cove Mtn. Shelter. Remember there's no water at Cove Mtn. shelter.

I will be hiking a section from Daleville past the James river to the BRP mile 51.7 starting 2/25.I had not considered a road closure...I live outside Pearisburg,VA.This will be my first hike in that area so I'll be looking for camping spots also for myself and three others, may see you out there.
