British citizens planning to visit the USA may only enter the USA for 3 months under the visa waiver programme ,,,however it takes about 6 months to thru hike the Appalachian Trail.... is it possible to obtain permission to stay 6 months in the USA for something special such as thru hiking the Appalachian Trail..and how would one obtain this permission ?
