Default Stop Running This Script Notice

When I enter the "forums" main page I get a pop-up on my screen that says:

    stop running this script?

A script on this page is causing Internet Explorer to run slowly. If it continues to run, your computer might become unresponsive.

    YES NO

Can someone explain why this only happens on Whiteblaze and not other sites.

I have always thought that certain embedded ads cause this.

I am not sure what is causing this for you. I just trying running Explorer 9 and I did not receive any script errors. I refreshed the page many many times but still received no error. Have you tried this on another computer?

I looked it up. Script usually means Java Script and is often associated with ActiveX, which is also often associated with Adobe Flashplayer. A lot of times you'll get the script error when there are video ads on a web page and they get out of control. Or if the web site is trying to load a big file onto you machine.

You can disable java from running in your browser under the tools / internet options / programs > manage add-ons. Some web sites will insist you turn java back on, but WB doesn't.

Google ads are powerful. WB has them and so maybe that is the cause, dunno.

Thanks for the help everyone. I'll try the suggestions.

Glad to see I was not the only one.

When I get it resolved I'll come back and tell how I did it.

Edit to add: The window pops up only when I return to the main "Forums" page.

I just got the same pop-up on my computer when I went to the "Forums" main page. The only thing related to Java in the "manage add-ons" is "Java SSV-Helper". Just an FYI; I have not disabled that yet to experiment.

I just disabled "Sun Java Console" and that did not help.

I noticed the popup window only occurs after I'm logged in. I can view the website as a visitor and there is no pop-up window.

What's different between the two computers?

You may have some malware/adware on the affected computer that is also eating up resources. I have from time to time received this script notification but I don't recall it consistently happening on a specific site. I have attributed it to using too many resources at the same time or perhaps processes not stopping when they should and continuing to run. I don't know if that is correct though.

I did some searching on the web and found these two option. I don't know anything about them but they were mentioned over and over.

Common script errors messages can be eliminated by Clicking:
    1. Open Internet Explorer.
    2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
    3. In the Internet Options dialog box, click Advanced.
    4. Click to select the Disable script debugging check box.
    5. Click to clear the Display a notification about every script error check box.
    6. Click OK.

I think you nailed it with the malware. I'm not 100% on this, but it appears that when I went to the "Forums" tab and got the pop-up about a script running - slowing IE, malware by the name of storage.conduit somehow got in my machine. I see it in the browser history, and every time I clear it from the history it comes back a minute or so later. From what I have been able to determine, the malware collects information on all the web pages you have visited and sends it to an ad agency so they can bombard you with ads related to the web page content.

I seem to have gotten rid of the malware by clearing all the cookies, and deleting all the temporary files and running Trend Micro scanner. I just hope it doesn't come back. Zelph, you might check today's history file to see if you have a web page of storage.conduit showing up. I'd be curious to know. Also, it may not be related to the WB forums at all. It could be another page I clicked on that caused the infection on my machine.

I did as instructed and also went to the microsoft support link that you gave and at that site they have a "automatic fix" button that I clicked on and followed the prompts to download microsoft fix it. I then came back here, loged in and then went to the "forum" box and clicked on it and proceeded to get the popup window again.

I checked the history files and "storage.conduit" did not show up.

My Webroot security software had made a sweep 15 min. ago and no malware was found.

For now I guess it's something I have to live with everytime I log in.

    Thanks for all the help.

Ok, I'm easy to get along with. I down loaded Google Chrome and used it to navigate here. Low and behold, no popup window occurred. A fringe benefit is spell check....I misspelled occurred. Thank you very much. I'm clear to go now. No more popup.

Google Chrome is free software for those that want to get a new browser.

Attrol, did you make some changes that eliminated the pop-up window? It no longer occurs when I use Internet Explorer. What's up?

This may be happening because of an older version of the app. An upgrade to the app cost over $350. I will looking into purchasing it.
