Default I'm looking for an adventure...

It has been a few years since I have been on WhiteBlaze.net ... let alone made a post... but after I am ready to gear up for another grand adventure (hopefully this time a raccoon doesn't take a chomp outta my head), but I am ready for anything...

Anyone have any advice? I have hiked the JMT and Vermont LT since hiking the AT in 2009 and I am looking for something a little bit off the beaten path...

I am looking for a hiking partner and a grand adventure for the Summer of 2013...

I am incredibly openminded and incredibly grateful to be back on WB... I feel at home again!

I've heard wondrous things from friends here in the Northwest about the Wonderland Trail around Mt. Rainier. It's short (95 miles), but maybe you could combine it with the WA PCT section? Might not be off the beaten path enough, but it's just a thought ...

+ 1 on Pacific Northwest Trail
There is an overlay for this on Google Earth, somewhere.
Also see Chris Townsend;s articles in the TGO (the great outdoors, it's British) website.

Hey Phoenix, how have you been!
I'm thinking of doing the JMT in 2014. Unfortunately I'm booked for 2013 with two AT section hikes and 2 weeks in New Mexico.

This belongs in the "Other Trails" forum, not "AT General." Just FYI.

You might consider the High Sierra Route in the Sierras. That's off the beaten path. No path whatsoever. Just a route. I've section hiked parts of it on three different trips. Really spectacular. Most of it is above timberline. Make sure your map & compass skills (& possibly GPS skills) are up to date. Check out Roper's book on the route.

Grab some maps and make your own route.

You could easily spend weeks in The Winds, the High Sierra, etc.

Trails are cool. Your own routes are even cooler if you are looking to get off the beaten path.

All depends on your skill level and desire.

If you want more than say two weeks, try something like the Grand Enchantment Trail or Canada's Great Divide Trail. Both more routes than trails.

I you want lesser traveled in the East, the Coos Trail might be of interest.

Great Divide Trail is a real adventure. See http://spiriteaglehome.com/gdt.html
Idaho Centennial Trail has some serious issues like a 100 mile waterless stretch at the south end and really problematic resupply in the wilderness areas.
Colorado Trail is beautiful and more accessible than either of the above.
Or, as Mags said, get maps and wander for a month or two in the Winds, the Absaroka-Beartooths, the Sierras, or the Cascades.

The Superior Trail in Minnesota is quite scenic and not real crowded but if you're hiking in mid-summer, you'll have to deal with mosquitoes. I hiked it in September and only dealt with mosquitoes the first 4-5 days.

How difficult is the Pacific Northwest Trail? If someone typically hikes 15 - 17 miles a day on the AT in Virginia, for example, how many miles a day would they log on the PNT?

Do you mean the COHOS trail going from New Hampshire to Canada?
