    Default worthington st park

im new to the AT, and hiking alone...im starting at the worthington parking lot, prob next weekend...i wanted to start easy my first day, and camp at the first site..my question is, i read that thru hikiers can camp free at worthington for one night, how true is this, and how about mohican. i am tent camping, and not looking for cabins or anything of the such, just a simple tent site that is possobly free..thank you for any of your time and knowledge...have a great day.....jim

Worthington State Park campground charges $20 per night. The backpacker campsites (the first one is right before Sunfish Pond) are free. The Mohican Outdoor Center charges $11 per person for non-members. I know all this because I'm hoping to go from DWG to Culver's Gap next week. Just finalizing the plans. Maybe we'll see you there. The only legal camping on the A.T. in Worthington State Forest is the Backpacker Campsite, 3.5 miles north of the Dunnfield Creek Parking lot on I-80. It's about 0.5 miles south of Sunfish Pond (which is the water source), behind the bulletin board at the junction of the A.T. and Douglas Trail. And it is free.
