Default A question I can't find the answer to..

I understand the PCT is 2,650 miles...I would love to say I walked the whole thing but I need to shave a good 600-800 miles off in order to make it fit in my time off.

I'm looking for a map that has mile markers on it. Like let's say, how many miles is it from the southern starting point to the John Muir Trail section?...Or, where would stopping 300 miles before the north ending point put me?

    Any help would be great...Thanks!

You could just hike California (1700 miles) or hike California and Oregon (2150) and come back to hike Washington the next year.

If you need to start in summer, then Walker Pass is a good place to start - entry into the Sierras and public transportation will take you most of the way. It's 640 or so miles up the trail

Postholer has a free online data book: http://postholer.com/databook/index.php?trail_id=1

If you go to the postholer PCT map and then add some sort of "location type", such as "Mail Drop/Resupply", you'll get points shown on the map: http://postholer.com/gmap/gmap.php
Better yet, find the link on that page that says "show distances", turn that on, and then just zoom in and out and hover your mouse pointer over the map to see trail mileage at any given point.

Halfmile (http://www.pctmap.net/download/index.html) has a Google Earth kmz file. If you load this into Google Earth, you can pan and scan the entire trail. It's a lot of fun to fly through the High Sierras.

Also: http://www.pctmap.net/trailnotes/index.html has 3 sets of notes for the trail (South/Central/North). This will give you mileage, but also a lot of info about good places to get on/off the trail.

    .
On Halfmile's map the JMT Jct is 767 and according to that website it is 740. Might be a little outdated.
Pain is a by-product of a good time.
