I was thinking of doing this section about this time as well. What dates are you going? If it matters I am a noob hiker as well, same age and married but all our children are of the fuzzy four legged variety.

Depends on what dates ...... I'll do it with ya. I'm close to Springer and it'll be a good time of year.

I maybe starting around September 20. Will be driving up from Florida after helping out my daughter and was planning on doing a section hike from Springer to Fontana Dam about 160 miles. Next spring do another section north bound. Wife still works so she gets upset if I leave for to long this should be about a two week hike. If interested get back to me send me a private IM.

I will be at Springer on Sept. 29th for the week , I plan on going to the state line if anyone wants to come. I'm not doing the approach because it would cost me a day.

As a fellow Lexingtonian, I've done that section. Even at a slow pace, the 8 miles would 'cost' you about 3 hrs. Other than the wretched stairs at the bottom of the waterfall, it's an easy section. You might want to give it a go just to have it done.

I am planning to begin my journey on the AT on November 16 - 18. I am going to do it one section at a time due to my day job. Any advice that you could offer would be awesome. I plan to start at Springer and go as far as possible in a long weekend. Where should I plan to be picked up on Sunday? Thanks for your help
