Question VA 679/Snicker's Gap Parking Safe?

Does anyone have experience or knowledge about leaving vehicles overnight at the lot near Snicker's Gap, VA 679? I also hear there's a DOT commuter lot nearby. Any info on that option?

We're looking to do an overnight hike from Harper's Ferry to Snicker's Gap. I'm open to other suggestions you might have for transportion solutions.

    Thanks!

There is a large commuter lot at Rt 7 that has ample parking for many cars. I'd check with the ATC in Harpers Ferry for information on any parking issues for Snickers Gap parking, (304.535.6331)

I have left cars there in the past to do overnights to the Sam Moore Shelter. No problems with my car afterwards. I did see a Loudoun County, VA sheriff car paroling in the lot once.

I left a car there by the trail safely for several nights last September. It is pretty isolated, despite being next to a busy road. The DOT lot is less isolated (but less convenient). Be careful crossing Route 7, especially in the fog.

Thanks to all for the suggestions! In the end, we parked the cars at The Bear's Den Trail Center which was only 0.6 mi from Snicker's Gap/VA 7. It cost us a few bucks per car, but we knew they were safe.
