    Default DC to AT

    Yo WhiteBlaze,

It's been a while since I've been on here. I've returned because I'm wondering how one might go about going from Washington, DC airports to the AT. I'm thinking I'm gonna start in Harper's Ferry in mid-May and simply walk north until the end of August and then leave trail and head to school.

    So, um, yeah, Sound Off!

Not sure how to get from the airports to Amtrak, but Amtrak runs a once daily route to Harpers Ferry from DC. I bet it's easy to get to the station, and it lets you out right in downtown Harper's Ferry.

Check the Amtrak site, it will help.

If you fly into Reagan National, you can jump on the Metro (the Blue Line, I think) and take that to Union Station. From there you can either hop on the aforementioned Amtrak train, or grab a MARC commuter train out to Harper's Ferry. Check the link and go on down to "Brunswick Line" for the MARC times.

If you fly into Dulles, you may have to get a shuttle to Union Station, as there isn't currently Metro access to this airport.

I'm so confused, I'm not sure if I lost my horse or found a rope.

You can also take the MARC train to Brunswick, which runs more often then the Harpers Ferry line. If you are going NOBO and don't care to see Harpers Ferry, it's not that much more walking, about 4 miles along the C&O canal. the MARC does not run on weekends or holidays and it only goes from Washington and points west in the afternoon.

If you fly into Dulles, take the Washington Flyer coach bus to its one and only stop at the West Falls Church Metro stop. Their website is http://www.washfly.com/flyer_bus_schedule.htm
Take the Orange Line towards New Carrolton (DC) and get off at the Metro Center stop. Transfer to the Red Line (go to the upper level) heading towards Silver Spring/Glenmont. Get off at the Union Station stop for either the Amtrak or MARC train. Please note that the MARC train does not operate on weekdays and holidays. Either train service heads to Harpers Ferry in the afternoon.
