Thread: Peru, Vermont

    Default Peru, Vermont

    Hi Folks!

I'm planning a hike of the Long Trail beginning in late June or early July this year.

My primary method of resupply will be via mail parcels.

Google maps tells me that the Peru, Vermont post office is approximately 1.5 miles closer to the trail than the one in Manchester Center.

However, I haven't seen any other mention of this site as a possible resupply point.

Is there a reason for this?

Manchester Center is a biggish town with plenty of services - Eastern Mountain Sports, Grocery Store, Liquor Store, Restaurants, Bars, etc. - so, most people who need to "go into town" take advantage of this. It's an easy hitch into M.C. too - I think that I got picked up in 5 minutes or less into town and 10 minutes or so out of town -- I know nothing about Peru, VT and even if it has a store.

If you want to send me a private message, I'll send you all of my re-supply points -- fyi, I would suggest (perhaps) one or two mail-drops but they are overrated, don't allow for schedule flexibility, etc. There are plenty of adequate grocery shopping spots on the LT.

Go with Manchester. Not much to be had in Peru and might be a hard hitch.

There was a general store in Peru that closed about a year ago. Now the only service in town is the PO. Surprised Peru is not on the list of PO closures.

As others have said Manchester Center is the best alternative...and an easy hitch.
