When you concieve a child that is an unwritten contract to raise that child. All children are different. Only you know whats best for your child. There are to many variables to make a blanket statement one way or the other. The best time for the child may be the hardest time for you (such as with an infant because the care then is mostly physical vs when they are older and it is more emotional). The trail will always be there you only have one shot at raising a child. Remember nobody thinks their child will end up on America's Most Wanted but some of them do.

Kudos to you! Too many times I have heard the regrets of my own mother over things she never did because she has children. Those regrets made her a depressed and distant woman, and thus a distance mother. Live your dreams, make yourself happy, and a happy you will equal a happy them. Include your family in whatever ways that you can while you are on the trail - phone calls in towns, meetings for day hikes, having your husband/sister track you on a map back home and put together your trail packages.

If you have the support and love of your family - anything is possible and you are never doing anything alone.

Ahem - that was to say have your husband/sister help your KIDS do those things, to keep them involved in your hike

There is no wrong time to hike, unless you have a medical situation. Hike when you are more comfortable to hike. If you wait until your children are older, you can always hike with them. Good luck!
