Default ATC Holiday Open House - Sat. Dec. 3 (Harpers Ferry, WV)

Come join fellow A.T. enthusiasts in Harpers Ferry on Saturday, December 3 from 9 am – 5 pm for the Appalachian Trail Conservancy’s 9th Annual Holiday Open House. We'll have homemade cookies, hot cider, and coffee.

This year we’re bringing back the Trail Tale Contest (at 1:00). The grand prize this year is dinner for two at the awesome Canal House Café in Bolivar (half a mile from ATC).

A used book sale is a new feature this year. Selections range from out-of-print A.T. memoirs to old Data Books to coffee-table books of “other” trails.

Our Ultimate Trail Store offers the opportunity to get gifts you can’t find in the mall (more at www.atctrailstore.org). There’s also lots of shopping in historic downtown (1/2 mile away), all decorated up for “Olde Tyme Christmas” (more at www.historicharpersferry.org).

Of course, Harpers Ferry is hard to beat for day-hikes close to Washington or Baltimore. You can find free maps at www.nps.gov/hafe/planyourvisit/hikes.htm. If you stop by our visitor center, we can help give you directions or help you select among the many options. (One update : The north end of the blue-blazed Loudoun Heights Trail has been closed and blocked off. You can only access Loudoun Heights via the A.T.).

Finally, for those of you who were following this year’s thru-hikers, you can look through the Harpers Ferry photo album and can see you sent in their Katahdin/Springer photos this year. We hope to see some of them in person, too—as well as some of next year’s thru-hikers!

You can find us at 799 Washington Street, Harpers Ferry, WV. We have free parking--a rarity in Harpers Ferry. Directions and more about our visitor center at www.appalachiantrail.org/locations.

    Hope to see you!

    Default A.T.-related cookie shape suggestions?

Any ideas for an A.T.-related cookie shape? Something that would be simple but clearly identifiable with the Trail?

I've thought an outhouse-shaped sugar cookie would be cute, but would that gross people out?
