I got one here as someone who is completely new to packbacking hoping to do a thru-hike next year. You can see the thoughts of a newbie here.

I wish I could edit that to make it a link but anyway, let's try that again.

I used trailjournals.com back in 07, but decided to switch to the Postholer.com website. They seem to be very user friendly with email updates including photo attachments. Ditto on the OP for saying TJ is kind of stuck back in 99. It worked very well for me in 07, but now that I use a "smartphone" the idea of email updates was very appealing. It was kind of painful to switch...felt like cheating on a girlfriend or something =)

Have you tried doing a Google blog search for "Appalachian Trail" or "AT Thru Hike"?

yes, I have and that's why I made this thread seen as recently started blogs don't show up on google for a good while and most people have recently started blogs for this year's thru.
it's taken 3 months for my blog to come up on the first page of results.

have you tried making useful comments or do you just waste your time doing that?

http://www.thruperspective.com/ I just made it very recently so there's not a whole lot to it yet. I've already quit my job, so hopefully I'll have plenty of free time to begin writing more on the blog.

I'm glad I came across this thread too because since I recently sold my tv and most of my other possessions I've been wanting to do nothing but read about the trail. I'll be sure to check out these blogs. I' just going crazy being away from where I really want to be.

    Everyone's first question:
"Wow - How tall are you?"
    Answer: "I'm 6'6""
    Ergo, my trail name: 'Six-Six'
