Default Death on the trail bald knob va

Amherst Co., VA - Hikers in a remote area of Amherst County found a body along the Appalachian trail. The FBI is now involved and it may have been there for a while, said FBI spokesman, Lawrence Barry.
Around 4:00 p.m. Friday, the body was discovered a short distance from a hiking trail in the Northwestern area of Amherst county, officials said.
Saturday, local, state and federal agencies were in the Mount Pleasant area with ATVs. A command center has been set-up on Wiggins Spring Road, a remote location where hikers frequently visit.
We still don't know exactly where the body was discovered, whether it is male or female, or a possible cause of death.
It is important to note that because the body was reportedly discovered on national forest land, the FBI has jurisdiction. However, State Police, the Amherst County Sheriff's Office and the National Park Service are all working together, said Barry.

Yeow ! I hiked just short of there there last spring (2010) . Sounds like foul play to me ,stating "where hikers frequently visit " , body was badly decomposed.

    just sayin'....

Heck of a thing to find while looking for a stealth camp site or place to take a dump.
Foul play? Maybe, maybe not and they may or may not find out if it were.

Where is this located on the AT?
There are so many miles and so many mountains between here and there that it is hardly worth thinking about

It does make one think about foul play, but also I've thought about all the reported people that have gone missing -- seemingly just packed up and left, not all are foul play, but I don't know...

This is all I could google up:

    http://www.wset.com/story/15261480/h...scover-body-in

Video doesn't add much, other than an attempted interview with a man from Radford (?) University that may be part of the investigation.

Radford University has a forensic science department and works regularly on cases where decomp has made it difficult to id the body. The man in the jeep is a well respected archaeologist and forensic scientist in these parts, and a hell of a good guy.
it is strange that a man would put the pieces together as they please opposed to being content with where the pieces fall

Is this not within an hour's drive from where Nature Boy was attacked?

It must be difficult for those who are passing thru that area even though the authorities have said that they think there is no danger to other hikers.

I remember how spooked the NOBOs were when the bodies of the two women were discovered in the Shennies.

Just a question. Might there be a serial killer on the AT? Hikers beware. Im wishing all you guys good luck and safe travels. I will be hittin the AT when i sell my house. I hope the deaths arent related. May a swift capture and painful end be to the one(s) that are responsable.

Hey, anyone know anything about "Stonewall"? I'm a reporter with WSET in Lynchburg, VA covering the story.

I spent a night at Hightop Hut with Stonewall. He was no fool. He knew what he was doing in the woods. Very upset to hear he is dead.

It could be a natural death we need to wait to see the outcome. Also the only reason the FBI is involved is that the area is a National Forest which gives them jurisdiction just hearing the word FBI we tend to jump to conclusions that a crime was committed. I say we toast him in hiker heaven and celebrate his adventurous soul.
