Question about rain fly

I just bought a mountain hardware corner's 4 tent and they say you do not need to seal the seams on the rainfly because they are taped and guaranteed not to leak...should I seal the outside of the fly or not?

If it's guaranteed don't bother, otherwise you may void the warranty. You'll find out soon enough.

Taped seams are generally good-to-go; in fact, applying seam sealer may screw up the tape. However, if there are any significant gaps in the tape, or non-taped areas where there is stitching, it couldn't hurt to seam-seal those.

I've had a MH tent for 3 or 4 years now and never had any leaks. I think you are safe skipping the seam sealing.

I recently purchased a Fury four season tent by MSR and duly seam-sealed it before the first trip. The main consideration is sealing all the floor seams---both on the floor and around the perimeter. Later after the tent is set up in the yard I did the outside of the fly (of course, the inside is taped). I've had taped seams leak and it's not uncommon. Just make sure you use the appropriate seam sealer (McNetts is the best)---Sil Net for silnylon, Seam Grip for a non-silicone tent.
