LOL-- This month she will be leading a 3.5 mile Hike around Hot Springs for an event from OUR STATE magazine. Kind of anti-climatic, don't you think? Jen's the BEST in so many ways! So proud to know her.

They just mentioned her on Headline News, and showed some images of her on the trail and at the finish.

Congratulations Jennifer on setting a new Supported AT Speed Record.
I am confident someone will eventually post here to tell us what it is.

Good question. I hope someone like Karl could chime in on this.

Is it healthy to stop cold turkey or would she need to wind down over a few days?

Has anyone added up the hours Jen hiked? It would be interesting to see how fast, per hour, she actually hiked.

I'd think with that much endurance that leg cramps will be a huge issue in a few days. And she'll be riding high with interviews for a time but there will probably be a let-down period when things quiet down.

Just saw the piece on CNN Headline News. I thought they did a good job of it. I especially liked the final quip, "I guess she really WAS on the Appalachian Trail........"

Well, I guess it could be, but my money would be that it was in reference to Governor Mark Sanford, who told his staff that he was hiking the AT when in actuality he was boinking his girlfriend. I'd expect far more CNN viewers to recall who Sanford was and what he did than to know about Bill Bryson.

About time to close this thread. It's rambling all over the place. Put away your pencils and put on your hiking shoes.

Generally when people are tired of a thread they leave it. What's with people asking to close a thread? If the mods do close a thread they tend to get a bad rap for censure.

Why? It is not off-topic and the banter is civil. I only (personally) close a thread when it is really nasty and/or off-topic (cf. the snow cave dude. It was no longer a speed hike)

Remember, you are not being forced to read the thread.

Now that the attempt is over, the thread will peter out on its own.

And, may I also add, Excellent job Jenn!

Is there an online link to the HLN story? I have been searching for it but cannot find it on the HLN site.
The most exciting phrase to hear in science, the one that heralds new discoveries, is not "Eureka!" but "That's funny..." Isaac Asimov

Veni, Vidi, Velcro. I came, I saw, I stuck around.
