Default March 13 NOBO from Jackson, MS via Newtown, PA

    "Stats" (an old moniker)
    NOBO
    March 13
Will not take the approach trail, but have hiked it a number of times.

My sabbatical is up September 1, so I must be off before then. Been training for this for 1.5 years and have lost 65 pounds so far. 15 more to go. I'm in decent hiking shape but I have virtually no cartilage in my left knee and I am concerned that I won't put in the daily miles to make it.

I'm getting excited -- only 10 more months!

Husband and I hiked from Springer to Erwin in 1987. Had to come off the trail for financial reasons. Have always wanted to do thru-hike. Doing several hikes this year to prepare our older bodies! Can't wait.

    Trail Name: Silverstone

    Northbound and down

Departure Date: TBD, but looking like mid-March

Approach Trail: TBD, but my dad is dropping me off, so I might have him wait in the Springer parking lot with my gear and do the .9 mile backtrack to the sign. Would get a chuckle out of slackpacking the first mile.

Starting 3 days after you! hope to see you in the Whites somewhere!

I'm thinking April 3rd, as I am released from active duty on the 2nd.
Never been to Amicalola, but I'm a traditionalist, will likely do the approach.

Currently in Afghanistan, tired of military life after 9 years, want to spend time in the outdoors and actually be able to 'enjoy it.' Finally registered and have been telling many people this is my goal, hopefully this will push me past dreaming to actually getting on the trail. I'm really excited about this, and have not been this excited about anything in a long time.

    Good Luck to all !

    Hey Scratch--

My dad lives up the road in Buford, and he'll be dropping me off at Springer when I go (I'm shooting for March 15 or so).

Probably wouldn't be a good parent-approved trail buddy though--44 yr. old dude. Hope to see you out there!

Hey Joe, be safe over there. You'll start a month after me but I am sure you will be in much better shape than me. Perhaps you'll pass me. If not, good luck to ya!
