Default How to get to Springer Mt.?

Does anyone have advice on what is the easiest and cheapest way to get to Springer Mt.? I was thinking about taking the Amtrak for something fun but it looks like it is the furthest distance away from the trail head compared to flying or taking a bus.

    Thanks

I looked at Amtrak to Gainsville, vs flying into Atlanta, vs rental car, and Amtrak was the cheapest - Especially when you factor in that Hiker Hostel charges less for shuttle service from Gainesville than from Atlanta. Now if you book a train with a sleeping room ... all bets are off!

both the bus and Amtrak have stops in Gainesville. the cheapest all depends on how far in advance you make the ticket and what kind of deal you can make.

Its not a highway. Its a forest service road.

    Default hike

You may want to get the hiker hostal reservations soon, they dropped me off at fire service road when I stayed there. Nice place to stay. I flew into Atlanta then took the Marta(tram) north to North springs stop I think and they picked me up there or will pick up at airport but cost more.

what I'm doing is Greyhound to Gainsville which is really cheap far in advance online price and then just Hitchhike to springer mtn. or hold a sign that says "A.T. $20 for gas" I'll be starting really late May 3rd and goin hard to finish in 3-4 months maybe I'll see you out there.

On a train your pack is with you the whole time. Something you will get use to wanting it to be.

I see you are in Dauphin, PA. I'd suggest heading upstream to where the AT crosses the river into Duncannon, and follow the trail south for a few months. It will take you right to Springer Mountain!

Flying into Atlanta, taking the MARTA to the end of the line for Hiker Hostle pickup. One night with them, breakfast and a ride to the trail head. Shipping my pack ahead all boxed up via UPS so I don't have to worry about it. I'd rather trust UPS than the Airline with my pack
