Default Nantahala Outdoors Celebrates the AT

Just a little info. While at NOC this past weekend for Soruck, one of the guys working at the store told us they were having their 1st annual AT hiker festival. For anyone interested, here is the link:

Thanks for the link. Thats a good place for a festival. I took one of their kayak roll clinics when I passed through there one year.

When I went there on my section, and a year later on my thru, you could see a lot of "fake hikers" there. They were the girls with makeup and NF gear on, brand new hiking stuff with no wear, and they smelled good. I guess any activity has people that like the "look" and image, but not the idea of actually hiking.

I know, right?! I agree...and mostly in the first 500 miles. BUT...I have always loved NOC and when he told me they were going to have something for hikers, I was surprised. Their main interest, of course, is the river so I found it pretty cool they were doing a festival for the trail. Especially since the trail runs directly through their campus.

yes it's going to be a great weekend. the NOC is due for an event like this so the class of 2011 will be greeted with quite the get together! music, vendors, and some great speakers/presentations (Andrew Skurka will be there!). hope to see all current, future, and past thru hikers there as well as the whole hiking community there!!

You make me chuckle LW. That's sorta like Bill Gates saying there's too many software companies.

I don't see how this is a problem what so ever.
No man should go through life without once experiencing healthy even bored solitude in the wilderness, finding himself depending solely on himself and thereby learning his true and hidden strength.

Their web site says "Both weekend dayhikers and long distance warriors are welcome to share their passion with like-minded friends and enthusiasts." Isn't there room for everyone in that?

    So very true.
Do you think it's just another AT festival the speard the love & appreciation, or to bring some funds to the NOC?
