    Default Plant Identification Help

Can anyone help me identify the brown octopus looking "plant thingy" (for lack of a better term) in this photo:
    http://trailjournals.com/entry.cfm?id=317032

We've never seen anything like it. We placed it on the green leaf in order to capture the image better.

    Thanks

I'm not an expert but it looks very similar to an Earth Star Fungus.

    Default Pine needles and seeds?

I'm seeing what I believe to be Pinus leaves and seeds likely of the same genus.
