I'm around 4 years older than you, so to hear such things as this leaves me,
    excuse me, laughing out loud.

I have been informed by friends and family members that I'm much too old to have a Facebook account.

These comments seem mean, begrudging, and yes, ageist.

These comments are, of course, entirely correct.

Jack, it never pays to question an administrator or moderator much less argue, attack, harangue, or harass one. You simply cannot win. It is like taking a swing at the President of the US: even if you got a lick in you will soon regret it.

That's just the way it is, unfortunate as it may be.

We have a shopping mall in town here, and on one occassion I wanted to make a complaint to management because of one of the stores, and I was informed at the office that all management were away, and so there was no one to leave a complaint with. This happened just the other day again to someone else. A new store opened up with vulgar language and provocative pictures on clear display to the public, including small children of course, and so he wanted to make a general inquiry and complaint to the management of the mall. He was met with the same defence. No one home. No number to call. There you go.

It is a different age we live in today. Even when you find authority, most often you cannot reason with them in a reasonable manner. The world just doesn't work the way it once did. Everyone is a mall security guard, even those in authority, and you just can't reason with mall cops, and these days, everyone is a mall cop. That's just the way it is.
In this day and age, one can just jump online to a stores website, and find out all the customer care information in a few key strokes.

By the way, what store is this? Just asking.

And, changing the guard once in a while is a good thing, IMHO.

And to think, less than 40 years ago you would've been characterized as ancient and over-the-hill.

Every so often, I send my 20-yo daughter a text using all of the latest abbreviations I can find. She's learned to just ignore me.

I still haven't figured out how to multi-quote, even though I'm an IT geek.

Everyone likes to argue with the ref, but can anyone recall the last time they actually got him to change the call? Cripes, MLB wouldn't overule a call for a perfect game!

This was one of the rare times that I used something from those 4 years of French I took in high school.

WB is nowhere near as bad as WF's site. Okay, let the arguments begin.

Oh, and I moderate the Geography forum. If you haven't visited lately, it can get really wild with Wise Old Owl posts.

Thank you, and I hope this question is being asked in the right place.

it is strange that a man would put the pieces together as they please opposed to being content with where the pieces fall

Without getting into the issue of "how much" or if even "any" censorship is appropriate, at least WF was consistent with his moderation. WB is all over the board.

Some people believe the internet should have the unlimited freedom that no other media have. But in the practical sense, this never works well--for a lot of reasons.

There will always be gatekeepers, because there will always be people who intentionally take advantage of free speech, which can ruin a message board. Sites with many participants need a number of moderators. Each may have a somewhat different approach; but from what I've seen over several months, the WB moderators do a good job.

This current dispute seems to be much ado about very little, but I am open to argument.
