I am heading out this weekend on the AT/LT in the Killington area in Vermont for a couple of nights. My fractured wrist is finally healing from a slip I took on Bear Mtn (Conn) 6-7 weeks ago. That is my one fear: injury. Last fall I twisted my leg on the Cat Rocks in NY and tore a maniscus in my knee. It is tough getting old ... and I am still fairly young. (no comments from you 20-somethings out there. lol)

What is your fear or anxiety for 2011? Whatever it may be, we all will get a chance to face it head on next year.

Happy Trails to all of us 11'ers.

Not being able to complete my second thru hike is my biggest fear. As you know, the drop out rate for second timers is extremely high. Why is this, you say? Second timers should know what's coming. That's just it, we know what's coming.

    Direction- SOBO
    Start Date- Mid Juneish
Approach Trail- Absolutely, there's an AYCE you can eat down there for SOBOs.

Well, I might be hiking next year. Been home from my second hike for 10 months now, and am getting bored. Will be hiking the CDT in 2012 (had to push it back so my friend can hike with me) so I need something to do next year. Figure I might as well just do the AT, but go SOBO this time. We'll see.

Trail name--I'll wait and see what comes along
    Direction-- NOBO
Start date--early March, depending on transportation
Approach Trail--yes, but the old one, not the gazillion steps up the Falls

I hiked about 500 miles of the Trail in 2003, about 1000 miles in 2007. This time I'm bringing my dog Seamus. I can tell that age is having an accelerating effect on me, so I am focusing on weight loss and training a LOT more--walking to work and back, usually with Seamus, so I get 10 miles per day and he gets about 8. I still have lots of food and gear to prepare, but now that it's less than 8 months, I'm starting to get that buzz of anticipation.

    Default Making the dream real

    Trail Name - Btown
    Direction - NOBO
Estimated Start Date - Mid to Late March
    Approach Trail - yes

This is my first post here. I'm looking forward to meeting 2011 thru-hikers. Feel free to reach out to me. I like the idea of getting to know some of you before hitting the trail. I believe in the buddy system and looking out for each other. My start date is not set in stone.

Btown - It appears as though we live in the same city! How great it is to see fellow Bloomington citizens on WB! Would you like to meet up sometime to "trail talk?"

Even better, I am planning for a 2011 thru-hike as well, although im not sure which direction yet..leaning towards SoBo (even though I posted otherwise in this thread a few months back..oops!) Hope to hear from you!

Hi Goez - it is great to meet someone else from Bloomington here. In my case, I'm a bit of a "road warrior" when it comes to work, so I'm not actually residing there at the moment. But, I am in town from time to time, so we can surely have a burrito at Laughing Planet or a frosty libation at Ncks sometime. Great to hear that you are in the 2011 planning stage also. I've talked to a couple of other guys here that are targeting NOBO mid-March of 2011. I'll probably be back in town during the next couple weeks. Let me know if you'll be around and we can trail talk!

A frosty Libation at NIcks? That sounds great - I work there!

Im leaving tomorrow for INdiana's newest hiking trail, the 140mile Knobstone trail, stretching from Morgan-Monroe State Forest to the end of the original Knobstone Trail, just north of Louisville. I will be gone for just over a week so after that let's meet and I will tell of my adventures and those to come! Take care
