    Default Is it cheating?

If you have completed the AT up to the Long trail split, would it be cheating to start from the split near the LT Brewery, and consider that a completed thru hike for the LT? Or would you have to start from the beginning?

It wouldn't be a thru hike. But it would be accurate to say you section hiked the Long Trail.
Love people and use things; never the reverse.

Mt. Katahdin would be a lot quicker to climb if its darn access trail didn't start all the way down in Georgia.

But if you have been spending all the time at the LT brewery that would still qualify as a thru-hike.

IMO you thrued the LT but in two sections. Does it really matter though just hike. HYOH and have fun.
Half of the people can be part right all of the time,Some of the people can be all right part of the time. But all the people can't be all right all the time

The GMC considers completion of the trail, regardless of how many sections it is done in, an End-to-End hike. It is entirely up to the individual as to how they want to do it. I, personally, restarted at the beginning and did it as a thru... but many, many hikers have done it exactly as you have mentioned. I, and most others, consider them just as much an End-to-Ender as I am.

If you hiked the whole LT you are an End to Ender. You hiked the whole trail! I've done it both ways 1/2 sections once and all the way thru. Get over the junky mindset. Either you hiked the whole trail or you didn't!
