Did a fun radio show with some folks that knew nothing about the Appalachian Trail. Hopefully now a few more people have an appreciation for it!

Just a word of advice for the future: refrain from saying 'um'.

Wouldn't mention it except that you said it in almost every sentence, sometimes twice in the same sentence. Kind of surprising for an attorney. but maybe you are an office attorney and not a trial attorney.

Ugh, I know. I didn't even realize I had that habit until I listened back to part of this interview. Made me cringe a little bit. But it's also forced me to pay attention to my speech more, so all in all a good learning experience. Can't improve unless you know something's wrong! Thanks for the tip, Trillium!

Here's a quick update on the Traveling Circus documentary:

    Title: Beauty Beneath the Dirt
Length of Film: About 68 minutes
Content: some of you will love it, some of you will hate it. But we wouldn't be the Traveling Circus otherwise ...

    Total Footage: About 150 hours
Years Invested: 4 years and counting ....
Total Budget: Student Loan Money, Less than $10K
Status: Aside from music, the film (and trailer) are complete.
DVD Extras: not yet cut, but clearly there will be a lot of extra footage on the DVD, including outtakes, thru-hiker interviews, and more.

    Website: being created now...

    Next Steps:

We have decided to submit the documentary to various film festivals, before DVD release. We will use the various media outlets above to keep you updated on film festivals, radio appearances, and other news media hits.

Again, thank you to everyone who followed along on our journey. I've always believed in the power of nature to transform. And I've always believed that film and television are the best ways to empower and inspire people to lead their best life. This project is closer to my heart than anything I've ever worked on in my life. And no matter what happens, I have no regrets ...

Isn't using student loan money to make the film illegal? I guess the lawyer would know.

    Ringleader,
Congrats to the 3 of you. I look forward to the release of the DVD. Good on you for following your dream through to fruition.

They don't call me Ringleader for nothing, Furlough. Haha. But joking aside, that means a lot to me -- more than you know. When you push boundaries you're asking for criticism, and I respect that and know that it comes with the territory ... but you have been supportive of us from the very beginning and we are forever greatful. The haters provide entertainment, but you provide inspiration. And I hope you know that part of the reason this film came "to fruition" was because of people like you. So thank you.

    hey ringleader

what tripod and head did you use to shoot?

Hey TV! Just responded to the email you had sent me -- sorry for delay. I'll reiterate here though: JVC-HMU 100, and a cheap, lightweight tripod from Target. Tripod worked great, just had to be careful on a windy day ...

Thanks Furlough! We are close indeed. We are currently booking screenings to generate some buzz around the film before releasing to video. We will be holding 2 screenings at Trail Days this year, and giving out free stuff from our sponsors. If you use Facebook, you can RSVP to our Trail Days Screenings here: http://www.facebook.com/events/214809835280695/

And if you like the trailer (), please pass it along to your friends via tweet/post/email whatever!

I'm taking Beauty Beneath the Dirt on tour this summer from Georgia to Maine; calling it the G2M Tour. I am so excited to share it with all of the communities along the AT that helped us and countless other hikers on our hike, by sheltering us, encouraging us, maintaining the trail, etc. Shoot us a message if you want me to come to your town!! I will try my hardest to make it! [email protected]

Also, did a test-drive of the screening process last week in San Francisco. Absolutely incredible - I could not have hoped for more. People laughed, cried, applauded, gasped. I wrote a blog entry about it and some other notions here: http://www.beautybeneaththedirt.com/...eavingstaying/ More blog entries to come this summer! Trying to post one after every screening! 60 days on the road!! Woo!
