One more thing, you might want to inform folks that just about every beach resort on the east coast has a gay community in it.

worded poorly as usual. by high i meant large portion.

I know more about rehoboth than the average tourist. My Father lived there year round for years. I live in OC MD and had a gay room mate for years. While every beach town has a gay community in it, rehoboth is know for being more tolerant and open and having a much higher concentration of gays. In rehoboth you have one major road running down the center of a small town. where it meets the board walk they have this store.

    Sorry for the thread jack.

    Nope.

Enjoyed meeting Lightning (Covetree) at Trail Days. She seemed a nice young lady who (tragically) didn't force her way into my tent.

I hope they're continuing to do well on the trail.

and why exactly is pointing out that there's a gay community somehow "knocking" it?

Rockaway Beach by the Ramones is great little song.

Nothing to do with this thread at all.

    Just thought I'd mention it.

    Thanks.

Wow, cant believe so many people feel the need to hate on people they've never met. You would think that on a hiker forum on a hiker website people would be supportive of other hikers or at least not bash people they dont know. Sure they have put themselves out in the open but i find it sad that people are picking apart every word they have typed to pass judgement. If i was to make judgement upon people solely on what i saw they typed on the internet than i would be passing the judgement that the people on here who posted personal negative things about people they dont know are self absorbed tools with no life. These three hikers are very fun to be around and are going to make it to maine and i am sure of this because i have met them.

All these arguments seem very cyclical. People reading the hikers blog pass judgement on them and then people who know the hikers defend them and pass judgement on the people reading the hikers blog who pass judgement on the hikers, then the people reading the hikers blog who pass judgement on the hikers defend other people passing judgement on the hikers and pass judgement on the people who know the hikers... yada yada yada

Anyone have any thoughts as to why the AT lacks a minority population?

This has been discussed in WB thread before. Here's one such thread. You can find others using WB's search feature - just type in "minorities."

I believe Ringleader was looking for folks to comment on the blog entry, though I could be wrong.

I was going to be critical about that video, but you know what? She'll find out what the trail is really like when she hikes it- maybe she'll be right, who knows? Cut her some slack and let her figure it all out. Everyone hikes for a different reason, and LOTS of people are changed by their hike, even if they don't realize it at first.
