Winter: bamboo or silk long johns
Summer: Mix of commando, swimsuit with mesh support and nothing else, and cotton briefs when modesty prevails. I am still looking for a nice, wickable boxer that can double as a swimsuit without worrying if someone is looking too closely.
Spring & Fall: the above for summer plus a pair of bamboo long johns stuffed into sack just in case the temps plummet.

The Walmart brand Under Armour is all good. No issues in two years. Can get a little smelly after hard days, but it washes easy and dries fast.

It was at walmart for a while. They quit carrying it in my local. I saw some at Target yesterday, but was blasting through and did not stop to examine.

I think they work as well as UA and mine still do not need replacement after two years of hard use. The tops are all that I use - I do not have pee-stain issues and do not require any underwear.

I've been using Wickers briefs from Campmor.com - $15 briefs, $17 boxers - for 60+ mile section hikes. Wear for 3 days, switch, wash the old ones and repeat in 3 days. I got black, so as not to show any unsightly unmentionable stains, etc. They have kept me dry on occasions that cotton briefs would have to be wrung out twice daily and no, Depends would NOT have helped on those days!

Free ball it and then you can have a really cool trail name.

I wear running shorts that have a built in crotch. Light and comfortable. I bring an extra pair and when I feel the need I can wash up, rinse out, and they air dry quickly.
Pain is a by-product of a good time.

Lightweight shorts with a built in liner work for me.

I wear the mesh lined shorts with no underwear.
But am thinking about trying these.

If you sew, or someone you know sews. Kwik Sew pattern 3298 will be the trick for bathing suit underwear combo. Just make it without the fly. Joeann fabrics has a pretty good selection of stretch fabrics that will work.

None for me. I almost always cut out the mesh liner of any shorts I hike in as well. I've been wearing board shorts lately - no elastic in the waist + dry quickly.

Wow 1766 views... who would have thought...undershorts for men...
Dogs are excellent judges of character, this fact goes a long way toward explaining why some people don't like being around them.

I have both UA boxer briefs & Ex Officio Syn Boxers. I prefer the regular loose boxers. My oysters don't get as steamed & I can use my trunk to pick up loose skittles I find on the trail.
