Dear Appalachian Trail Museum Friends,
Two emails, containing organizational newsletter, just came across to me !
One is the two-page THE FRIENDS OF PINE GROVE FURNACE STATE PARK NEWS.
Not only does it reference the A. T. Museum on page 2, but has some articles of interest
to Museum supporters since this state park is The Museum's home. Some of the article headlines are:
"Welcome Joe Basil, Our New Park Manager",and "GRANT AWARDED TO IMPROVE MOUNTAIN CREEK TRAIL".
Additionally, it has the announcement of "UPCOMING 2016 EVENTS" ~ Earth Day; Woodsy Owl Weekend;
and the 6th. Annual Iron Race !

The other is the winter 2015 - 2016 edition of The Long Distance Hiker,
The Newsletter of The Long Distance Hikers Association. Page 24 is totally devoted
to the Museum's AT Hall of Fame, and page 28 contains an article about the $11,500 grant
to The Museum from the South Mountain Partnership. Additionally, it should be noted that
this 44-page newsletter tied the record for the largest with the Winter 2014 edition,
besides being absolutely stock full of a wide variety of articles and information.

Since many hikers begin the northbound through-hike in March, I thought
I'd pass along these two short films for your review ~ I hope you enjoy them:
FILM #1 ~ The Appalachian Trail, National Geographic
Published on Jan 20, 2015
For more than half of the U.S. population, the Appalachian Trail is less than a day's drive away.
Yet despite its proximity to many major cities, few truly know the splendor of this national treasure.
National Geographic travels off the beaten track to discover the remote and often unknown corners
of the 5-million-step journey. ~ Click on this link (note, you can skip the advertisement):

FILM #2 ~ Flow: A Journey Through Culture and History on the Appalachian Trail
Published on Apr 22, 2015
As part of an independent study for Wofford College Interim we took to the Appalachian Trail
(in the dead of winter) seeking to discover the depths of it's history and culture. What we found
exceeded even that. Somehow the brutality of the winter wilderness was overshadowed
by numerous counts of serendipitous grace, and we will never be the same because of it.
In this film, interviews with Jennifer Pharr Davis, Brian King, Kip Redick, Laurie Potteiger
and others shed light on the complexity of the history and culture of the AT.
Furthermore, our journey is a true testament to the indescribable power of
"The Trail".
