    Hello Red Wolf.
Glad to see you are still so very involved with the AT and the museum.
Recently, a good friend of mine, who know owns the land where my old Boy Scout Troop 122 in Schuylkill Haven, PA, dug up an artifact and asked me if I knew anything about it.
Although I was in the boy scouts from aprox 1962 to 1967 at that location, and spent a lot of time hiking the AT in those years around the area, I had never seen this AT sign before.
It appears to be an official marker for the trail, yet has our troop's name on top. (Troop 122)
He will most likely donate it to the local scout troop who now owns land nearby for their newer cabin.
But, could you ask around if anyone has any info as to a date that this trail sign would be from?
Here's the picture: appalacian trail sign.jpg

    Thanks in advance Red Wolf.
And keep up the good work.
I have many good memories of discussing the trail with you back in the late 80's and 90's.

    Fiddlehead,

    "HELLO, bro" !
Are you still in Thailand and playing "Rock-'N-'Roll" ? I'll send your info to several I know with more archival info
and knowledge than I have, and let you know something, if we're lucky.

    HAPPY TRAILS !

    Fiddlehead,

I asked about and ended up with Brian B. King of the Appalachian Trail Conservancy (he is really the AT historical expert).
Here is the info he supplied:
    *********************
"I doubt that the additions to the marker would have been "official" in the 1930s (likely time period); maintainers and
especially clubs exercised a lot of autonomy as long as they got the markers up before Avery walked past for inspection.
ATC experimented a lot with types of metal and paint in contracting for the markers, which became ever more costly
for ATC to pay for. I've seen ones painted white like this one but would have to dig a lot to determine what year that
experiment was undertaken. My guess would be the troop itself put those notations on."
    *********************
All this being the case, he would seem to me that the Scout Troop 122
would be most grateful for this piece of Appalachian Trail history, as well as of their Troop 122 history !

    HAPPY TRAILS !

    And hiking too!
Getting ready to hike the Via Dinarica trail in eastern Europe in about 6 weeks.
Can't wait to get back into hiking.
Thanks a lot for the info.
I will forward it to the troop and my buddy who found it.
Brian King still at ATC huh?
He's been there for quite some time now.
Must be getting close to retirement.
    You too.

    You too.
    How's the legs buddy?
I now like to plan trips with a start at a road crossing or a skylift at the TOP of a range,
and plan the trip basically going downhill. There still are some ups and downs, but not like from
the valley to the top ! Also, some downhills are VERY CHALLENGING, for example,
I did the High Cannon Trail from the top of Cannon MT. down over 3300 feet to Lonesome Lake Hut
in some "WICKED" 2.5 miles ! There is even a wood ladder, accessed by a two foot ledge on a sheer
rock wall and down about 30 yards ! BOY ~ was that ever a workout for leg muscles and arms
(I was using two poles of course) !

    BEST AS ALWAYS, Bro.

    HAPPY TRAILS !

    Dear Appalachian Trail Museum Friends,

Default AT Hall of Fame Banquet (with Banquet Program) & Festival ~ Spring Newsletter- & More

AT HALL OF FAME Banquet (WITH BANQUET PROGRAM) ! & FESTIVAL ~ FOPGF SPRING NEWSLETTER (HELP NEEDED) !
    ~ CAMPAIGN ~ BIENNIAL ~ & MORE !

    Dear Appalachian Trail Museum Friends,

This past weekend the Appalachian Trail Museum enjoyed
two splendid days of activity ~ the AT Hall of Fame Banquet
and the next day's AT Hall pf Fame Festival (an all-day
affair at The Museum) ! I arrived by train from Savannah,
Georgia on Thursday afternoon, and went first to the store
to buy the four watermelons I cut Saturday for the picnic
at the Museum's AT Hal of Fame Festival. Friday morning, I
picked up the Building Fund Donors (2013 - 2016) plaques
from Noel in order to display them at the AT H of F Banquet
    that evening.
~ AT HALL OF FAME BANQUET:
Last Friday night, at the Comfort Suites in downtown
Carlisle, Pennsylvania, a crowd of enthusiastic AT and
    A. T. Museum supporters gathered for our eighth
AT Hall of Fame Banquet. Two display tables were set up
along one wall prior to the 6 PM Reception ~ one by
the Museum Manager, Nate Shank, contained photos of
the Museum's progress in building renovation, donation and
membership info, various Museum decals, etc. ~ the other
table, set up by myself "RED WOLF", Membership Secretary,
displayed the recently fabricated, permanent Museum
plaques of the Building Fund Donors (2013 - 2016). These
were delivered by Noel DeCalvacante, Board Member, from
the Florida plaque-maker ! They are to hang permanently
in the A. T. Museum for all to review. This table also had
the info about the new 2017 - 2021 Campaign (& its plaque) !

    ~ PRESENTATION BY JEFF RYAN
Appalachian Odyssey: A 28-year Hike in America's Trail
Maine author Jeffrey Ryan will present a lecture and book signing
at The Museum about this, his highly acclaimed book ! Jeff says,
" I am so excited to get back to the A. T. Museum this year; I gave
a presentation last year to an enthusiastic crowd and can't wait to
return ! The former Executive Editor of National Geographic has
described Appalachian Odyssey as "destined to be a classic
of nature and travel writing." The story of how two friends began
hiking the AT in 1985, and saw their hike through to completion in 2013,
is rich in history, humor, and friendship. Many reviewers have remarked
that the book makes them feel as though they were on the trail
every step of the way. Beautifully illustrated through the use of maps
and photos shot by the author, this book delivers a depth of experience
that is a real treat. Ryan will also give a sneak preview of his new.
upcoming book, Blazing Ahead: Benton Mackaye, Myron Avery, and
the Rivalry that Built the Appalachian Trail, which will be out in time
