    REUNIONS OF CLASSES~ 40-, 35-, 30-, & 25-year reunons ~ SATURDAY / SUNDAY
<<< YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE A CLASS MEMBER TO ATTEND >>>

    Dear Appalachian Trail Museum Friends,

The weekend of Friday, June 6th. through Sunday, June 8th. will be a very special
weekend of trail events revolving around the Appalachian Trail Museum !

Your chance to mingle with trail friends and trail legends will begin Friday evening, June 6
at the Appalachian Trail Hall of Fame Banquet where there will be the induction of this year's
members into the Museum's AT Hall of Fame in nearby Boiling Springs, Pennsylvania.

Trail activities continue the next day Saturday, June 7th., with a gathering at The Museum, where
not only can you check out the exhibits, but also the present state of the Museum's construction.
The afternoon will feature meeting and greeting your trail friends and other hikers (including
this year's thru-hikers), partaking of the fine lunch offered, getting to know this year's inductees
into the AT Hall of Fame, having the opportunity to tell us about yourself and your AT experiences.
Group photos will be taken. The evening will bring out the brats along with potluck, as well as
evening stories being told around the campfire ! Sunday, June 8 is a day to meet those who may
have arrived a little late and whom you were not able to talk with much, maybe take a hike, eat a
half gallon of ice cream at the "Half-gallon Store" (of trail legend), and just hang out.

    SPECIAL WEEKEND (JUNE 6 - 8) !
TRAIL DAYS REVIEW / PARK PROGRAMS / HALF MARATHON & 5K

    Dear Appalachian Trail Museum Friends,

2014 Trail Days Festival ~ Damascus, Virginia

This year the A. T. Museum was represented with four board members present
~ Noel "The Singing Horseman" DeCavalcante, Larry Luxenberg (President),
Terry Wilson (Vice-president), and myself, Robert "
    RED WOLF o'da SMOKY'S"
    Croyle (Membership Secretary).

Thursday, May15, Noel and I set up the Museum table in one side of the ALDHA tent
(Appalachian Long Distance Hikers Association) . Many thanks, ALDHA, for the
donated space. ALDHA has long been a major supporter of the A. T. Museum.

Our AT Traveling Exhibit was set up in the recreation hall of The First Baptist Church of Damascus.
Calvin "Crazy Horse" Duncan and I set it up early Friday morning. It is a self-guiding exhibit.
Terry Wilson, who created this exhibit, informed me that while she was reviewing it,
an older gentleman was really excited and praising it loudly to all within ear-shot!
In fact, when Larry and I took it down late Saturday, an older boy (about 7th grade)
was pointing script out to three younger boys ~ they all had that trail-dreamy look in their eyes!
To see the 2014 Trail Days website, click on: 2014 TRAIL DAYS FESTIVAL

Earlier that week, on Wednesday, I treated myself to the pure enjoyment of a 2.5 mile hike

in the "Virginia high-country" ! This is the Wildflower Walk, lead by Eleanor Grasseli and
Snow Ferreniea, on Whitetop Mountain. Eleanor took a picture of the group and one of me
    (in the
red shirt, of course) ~ see the first two thumbnail attachments. We hiked north on the AT,
down to the road in Elk Garden. Just a few days later that same area had snow flurries,
while the temperature plunged to 39 degrees in Damascus !

ALREADY ~ time runs short before I leave Savannah on another road-trip!

Cool Press Release ~ Warrior's Hike Dinner - Meet & Greet this Sunday, June 15

    WARRIOR'S HIKE ~ DINNER ~ MEET & GREET THIS SUNDAY !

Dear Appalachian Trail Museum Friends, GREETINGS !

I just got back today to "Hot' Savannah" after one FANTASTIC week up there
around our Appalachian Trail Museum ! KUDOS to Joe Harold for his
more than excellent work ~ the Museum is in GREAT shape and only looks
to be better. The AT Hall of Fame Banquet was again a "MUST" hiker event.
After I have time to settle back in and catch-up with everything, I'll post more
    details about last week's activities ( & photos !).

Here is a letter from Joe Harold, Museum Manager and a news release in the
attachment about the upcoming Sunday, June 15 Program at the Museum:

    "All,

You may have read on the website or in some other publication that we will be
working with the Park and the Friends of Pine Grove Furnace to welcome this year's
Warrior Hikers on Sunday, June 15th at 4pm. We will be having a meet and greet
and cookout with the hikers after we have picked them up at Caledonia.

I'm looking to get a head count of those who plan to attend. The Friends are providing
the cooking stuff, but a covered dish to share would help with the feast. If you are
planning (or thinking) of coming, please let me know. Also, if you plan to bring something,
that information would be helpful too. We will need a firm headcount by June 11th at the
latest, but as usual, the earlier, the better.

We are also looking for a few people to shuttle the hikers back to Chambersburg
(where the USMC are putting them up in a Hotel) later in the evening (maybe around 8 or so).
If you can provide a ride for a few hikers, let me know and we will know we can get them
to Chambersburg safely for a nice comfy sleep.

Cool Two Up-coming Sunday Programs at the Museum

    TWO A. T. MUSEUM SUNDAY PROGRAMS !

    Dear Appalachian Trail Museum Friends,

Two upcoming Sunday afternoon Museum Programs deserve your attention:
    # 1: < < < THIS WEEKEND ~ SUNDAY AFTERNOON ! > > >
6/22/2014 - Don's Brother: A Hike of Hope on the Appalachian Trail
Mike Stephens is a retired high school English teacher and cross-country coach
who resides in Columbus, Georgia. He has hiked over 3000 miles on the Appalachian Trail,
including a northbound thru-hike in 2013. His hike was dedicated in memory of his
younger brother, Don Stephens, who died of ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease in August, 2012.
As a tribute to his brother, Mike used the trail name “Don’s Brother."

Mike wrote every day of the hike and recorded his writings on his website and at
trail journals. After returning home he edited his journal, interspersed stories about his brother,
and published the final document as a book, Don’s Brother: A Hike of Hope on the Appalachian Trail.

Mike will talk about his experience of the hike and how the hike helped him come to terms with
the loss of his brother. Attendees of this program will be able to purchase a signed copy
of Don's Brother: A Hike of Hope on the Appalachian Trail.
