(NOTE: TICKETS ~ inquire at Banquet email: [email protected] )

Everything happens at The Museum in Pine Grove Furnace State Park

on Saturday, June 8th., with activities described in the second attachment.
The Museum Hours of Operation are 9 AM to 4 PM. Meet and greet the
AT Hall of Fame inductees, see the construction activities and the progress
made to open more exhibit space, plus view all the NEW AT EXHIBITS ! ! !

Sunday, June 9th., The Museum will be open to all to view the new exhibits.

Default AT Museum Manager ~ Position Open

AT MUSEUM MANAGER NEEDED FOR 2014 SEASON

Dear Appalachian Trail Museum Society Friends,

The following information and announcement, with the attachments,
was recently sent to me to send out "FAR & WIDE" as we begin the
search for a 2014 AT Museum Manager:

"We need to begin the search for our new Museum Manager
to replace Howard at the end of the season. We have approached
many of the docents and many of the other local volunteers and
have not yet found someone willing and qualified to take on the job.

The job requires a lot of work, has significant responsibility and little
monetary compensation. What it does provide is the chance to direct
a great group of volunteers, the opportunity to mold an institution in its
early years, and to be an integral part of the Trail community. Our two
managers have set a great standard of performance and it is our hope
    to keep that up.

Interested candidates for this position are encouraged to apply for the position

~ submit a cover letter and resume to [email protected] .

    For additional information, contact:
    A. T. Museum Society President Larry Luxenberg at 845-708-5306

    Dear Appalachian Trail Museum Friend,

After dinner, the five Hall of Fame inductees for 2013 were honored.

One surprise was the presentation of a check to the A.T. Museum
in honor of the "Class of 1983 Hiker Reunion" (additional donations
the next day yielded a total of more than $4,000) !

While it's great to see "special presentations" and events concerning the Museum/Pine Grove Park area being shared, and it's wonderful to see info about these events listed here on WB, I think you'd probably get better turnout at such events if you listed them here more than three days before the event in question. When a Friday event is not posted until the preceding Tuesday, it's kinda hard for folks who made other plans for the weekend,or who perhaps have to work, to attend. If you want more people to actually attend these events, I suggest that you provide better prior notification about them.

Thumbs up Up-coming programs for the 100th. Anniversary of Pine Grove Furnace State Park

100th Anniversary Celebration Pine Grove Furnace State Park
2013 Schedule of Events Sponsored by Cumberland Valley Visitors Bureau
    __________________________________________________ _______________________

2013 marks 100 years since the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania took ownership of the former iron industry
lands that later became the State Park and most of the northern half of the Michaux State Forest.
Please join us in marking this anniversary at the following special events:

    Saturday, August 10th
This event will feature little-known and personal stories relating to Pine Grove Furnace. Local resident
    Andre Weltman will give mini-presentations on such topics as forgotten uses of the park in the 1920s;
Laurel Lake dam failures; and occupational injury or death during the 18th-19th century iron industry
(is the famous Hairy Hand of Fuller Lake based on a real event? Mostly “no,” but....... Also, members
of the public especially including local cabin owners are invited to share their own stories of Pine Grove,
including family history and memorabilia during this “open mike” local history event.

    Pine Grove Furnace Super Hike
    Saturday, September 14th
Pine Grove Furnace State Park has been a free place for people of all ages to enjoy the outdoors
for 100 years.Celebrate by hiking all the trails in the park in one day. The event will be held in two sessions
with each session hiking half of the trails in the park. Hikers can participate in only one session or, to hike
all the miles in the park, hikers can participate in both.

    Fall Furnace Fest
Saturday, October 26th and Sunday October 27th
The 5th annual Fall Furnace Fest will feature craft and food vendors, historic demonstrations,
nature crafts, pumpkin carving, old-fashioned apple cider making, broom-making demonstrations,
hayrides and live music. Saturday evening will feature the popular tradition at Fuller Lake,
the Legend of the Hairy Hand. In recognition of the 100
th Anniversary celebration, the Fest for 2013
will be themed on the history and future of the area as it has been transformed from industry to recreation.

JULY 21: Pine Grove Furnace Transformations in Industry and Recreation: 1877-1913
    - Local historian Andre' Weltman focuses on the decline of the charcoal iron industry and the rise
of recreation at Pine Grove Furnace.

    Dear Appalachian Trail Museum Friends,

"I traveled to Western Carolina University at Cullowhee this weekend to attend the ATC conference.

What a beautifully located campus! Spent time talking to the new ED of the conference and
my old buddy, Bob Almand the outgoing Board Chair. Congratulations for Bob for receiving the
coveted ATC Honorary Membership. Best part of the conference was talking to my publisher,
Larry Luxenberg, president of the AT Museum. We talked about the strategy of releasing THRU
as well as the long-term prospects of publishing a book solely for the benefit of a not-for-profit.
We are extremely enthusiastic about our prospects. We will have an e-book ready for you to read pretty soon."
