    50 Days!!!!

Tues March 30th (My Bday!) fly down into Birmingham, stay with my sister in Tuscalusa*(Alabama U)

Wed March 31st 4+ hr Drive to Amicola Falls. Sleep

Thur Apr 1st approach trail to Springer Mt. Then onward...

Side note if I arrive early enough to Amicola the urge may be to great and I could see myself tackling the approach trail on Wednesday, either way my first foot steps on the AT will be on Apr 1st, just a very fitting day to start.

I have also been so stoked about this hike. It was Last New Years Eve that me an a buddy came up with thru hiking the AT. Financially hes not able to do it but I decided to go anyway. So for the last year or so I have been researching and reading all I could about the trail/gear, doing weekend warrior hikes and more recently getting into better condition.

But as mentioned I have been focused so much on this goal, and have been craving the arrival of that day when I say goodbye, that this past weekend my enthusiasm wained a little bit and I became slightly annoyed with that pesky thought. It was more frustration that Im still waiting when I am ready to go now! (hasnt stopped me from obsessing about it haha! as I am on WB right now)

But after going through this post I have to say my enthusiasm is renewed and I can not wait till I set foot on the trail and all of that entails. (Im gonna miss friends and family but will not be missing my job! not in the least...well maybe the hole money part, that tends to make things easier)

Hobbot, you missed out on the last hike, by the way. Slugger brought 5 pounds of steak and maple bacon. (I, of course, also brought bacon. And pancakes.)

after this week I've got four more weeks of work. The week after that I'll be on Mt Springer (sometime around March 23-26, whenever the weather's good).

Still need to fix some things in the house before the house sitter arrives. And I've got most of my gear, just need a few clothing items & of course food.

    Work sucks. WORK SUCKS!!

I will be on the trail in 10 DAYS tomorrow! WOW. everything has been purchased mail drop to fontana and bounce box is ready to be sent out, and I am on the big countdown to Springer. Reality is beggining to take root as to how big this is.... how long it will be, and how far. True reality is that I still really dont have a clue.... but in 10 days I am going to begin to understand.... and will grow in that understanding with each passing day out on the trail. I am really at a loss about how I really feel....excited, nervous?....anxious?.....EXCITED!!!

I start Saturday week (8 days). Tonight I am on my way to Utah to enjoy long weekend with family before I leave. My friends are either all for this and think its a great idea or think I am insane and will die.

Wave at me as you go by, I will be the short fat bald man with the confused look.
