On the other hand, I've noticed that one relatively new member has improved his style of posting in the past week. I'd say the best you can do is to set a good example. Anything more is beyond your reach, much as it may grate on you.

I agree that spelling on the web is terrible but it is what it is. B thankful for the input. Besides, pobody's nerfect. (I can't believe nobody has used that one yet.
It is nice to be better, but it's better to be nice

Ok, as long as we're whining about grammar (I agree it doesn't take a whole lot of effort to use spell checker. (right click on the red underline words unless you have a Mac, then i don't know how you do it)
But, what bothers me is the use of capitol letters to say something.
About half the time, i don't know what the letters imply so often miss the point of what the posers (misspelling intended) are trying to say.
I am (slightly) guilty as i assume most know what SOBO, NOBO, IMO, AT mean. But I try not to use others.
Ok, whine finished.

Spelling Reform
A Plan for the Improvement of English Spelling
For example, in Year 1 that useless letter c would be dropped to be replased either by k or s, and likewise x would no longer be part of the alphabet. The only kase in which c would be retained would be the ch formation, which will be dealt with later.
Year 2 might reform w spelling, so that which and one would take the same konsonant, wile Year 3 might well abolish y replasing it with i and Iear 4 might fiks the g/j anomali wonse and for all.
Jenerally, then, the improvement would kontinue iear bai iear with Iear 5 doing awai with useless double konsonants, and Iears 6-12 or so modifaiing vowlz and the rimeining voist and unvoist konsonants.
Bai Iear 15 or sou, it wud fainali bi posibl tu meik ius ov thi ridandant letez c, y and x -- bai now jast a memori in the maindz ov ould doderez -- tu riplais ch, sh, and th rispektivli.
Fainali, xen, aafte sam 20 iers ov orxogrefkl riform, wi wud hev a lojikl, kohirnt speling in ius xrewawt xe Ingliy-spiking werld.

I'm thankful for those who are grammatically challenged. I wouldn't be making double the median salary without them.
Seriously - the poor grammar is not nearly as bad as all of the garbage advice I've been reading on here. Telling novice hikers they've never met that they should force themselves to eat or drink some pre-determined amounts is retarded and possibly harmful. One guy told a newbie his food didn't weigh enough.
Pain is a by-product of a good time.

Are you serious? Sometimes I miss sarcasm. But it is important to drink enough water while hiking, especially in hot weather, even (or especially) when you don't feel thirsty.
I think you misunderstood about the food not weighing enough. It wasn't that the newbie should be carrying canned goods instead of dry food, it was that he didn't have enough food, period.
Seems like a reasonable response to the question, "I have 10 pounds of food for my 10-day trip, is that enough?" might be, "No, you need more than a pound of food a day."

In the future I will try to use the right grammar, spelling and tense as well as the correct sentence structure. This coming trip from Springer to Fontana I will be on my best grammar behavior.

It bothers me too - although rarely enough to mention it online. Firefox has an auto-spell check feature that should at least clear up any misspelled words, but there are still plenty of remaining ways to destroy a sentence.
