since there are many water crossings [heading south] what type of extra/camp shoes do people recommend? will croc types do? or will 'river shoes' such as salomon's tech amphibian be the best bet? thanks.

"Ye who laughs last probably started laughing first."
I asked this a while back and heard a lot of rave reviews for crocs, so I got a pair and although I have only taken them one one hike, I have worn them all around and find they are light and comfortable
vibrum five fingers=camp shoes, water shoes, and back-up hiking shoes!
neoprene slippers have been selling well lately.
just google them
Don't let your fears stand in the way of your dreams
I find that after a week of wet weather hiking I have built up so much foot cheese that fixing an artificial sole to my feet is pointless, really.
If the weather is not too cold, I like to bring a pair of Teva sandals. They stay on your feet well and have a nice thick sole for walking on rocks. You can wear them in camp, town, showers and use them to cross streams. But at about 22 ounces they are heavy.

I've been using Crocs as camp shoes for a few years now. Very comfortable and very lightweight...
I've been wearing a pair of sandals like these foam birkenstocks. I found mine in a walmart in Florida, haven't seen them before or since. Called world walkers and licensed by birk, They were about 15$ and are a lot lighter than crocs. I imagine the ones in the link are similar.
I use AquaDuck Mr. Daytona shoes. They're like Crocs, but more stylish looking and their soles feel studier. 12oz for the Large Size.
up over the hills, theres nothing to fear
theres a pub across the way with whisky and beer
its a lengthy journey on the way up to the top
but it ain't so bad if you have a great big bottle o'scotch
I would advise against water shoes with very thin soles. They are not very comfortable in camp while walking over rocks and sticks with sore feet.
