Major stumbling block...
I'm starting out in Alabama in late February/early March in 2012 -- not only are the Central Alabama trails close to home, but it will help me acclimate to the trail BEFORE SPRINGER MOUNTAIN!
My only stumbling block is finding someone(s) to care for my old terrier, little pionus, and my cockatoo. Major concern...
I spend a lot of time outside and camping, so I've started accumulating gear, and started with small local hikes. I'm a real do-it-yourself-er... and a fan of Rube Goldberg!
I, too, have superior interior insulation, but I have too much, so I will have to shed some of my own pounds while conditioning.
Look for me... I'm the fat old lady in a skirt!

My Son and I are leaving from Ga on 5-5-12...can't wait. We live near the Smokey Mountains and are gonna train for the next year ...can't wait
