Thanks, Benjamin, for all the good advice. Now you've got me thinking if there's a good vantage point to watch fireworks!

I can't find anything on a formal firework show on the lake. But you know those crazy, drunk boaters.

Elizabethton/Carter County Chamber of Commerce lists a huge boat show from the dam to Shook Branch. So you will definitely hear people putter their boats along lakeside trail. And then fireworks over around the boat marinas further up the lake on the 3rd and 4th. Then Elizabethton should have their own fireworks at some point, if you can find a vista view from ridgetop.

Talk to Bob when you get to Kincora he might know something for sure.

A few of my friends have told me that the police hide in the woods there. I didn't get to hang with them though.;(

Some place you took us to, via yellow blaze, south of Damascus. I'm guessing TN Rte. 91, Shady Valley. You, me, Freebird, Indiana Dan.

I spent the night at the shelter and did the speed thing to Damascus the next day. That was in '95 and my memory isn't the greatest but i believe i did it in around 13 hours so you have me beat LW. (my pack was bigger though)
But my best recollection from that particular shelter was that it was where i first met Allen Stibora who now lives in NM near the CDT and has helped me IMMENSELY on my 2 thru's out there.
He is a great trail angel and did so much for us.
(However, he kept me up most of the night at Watuaga with his snoring)

Yeah, can't say I did the speed thing. Southbound last year we stayed there on our third night out of Damascus. Can't say we were in a hurry.

You should come up to my area of the country. This summer is one of their big coming out years. They are everywhere and making a ton of noise.

I camped on the big island Memorial day weekend. The locust were just coming out of their holes in the ground. We got a 16 year old nephew to eat one for 5$. The next morning anouther nephew wanted to make some money. He was only 5, and was willing to do it for 4$. They tried to get me to do it, but nobody had that much money. I didn't spend my money that way. There is a pizza place that will deliver pizza to the boat ramps at the lake. Now thats ruffing it!
