Talking Free Hike and Presentation this weekend in Northwest Georgia

    Howdy all-

I am leading a hike and doing a presentation this Saturday in NW GA. It's a free event put on to promote more hiking and biking in the area. Come out to show your support, get our on the trail with me for an interpretive nature walk, and see what it was like to walk the Pacific coast of the US. Please read and pass along the below notice as you wish.

    ANNOUNCEMENT--

    Summerville Hiking Event on Saturday

On Saturday, April 18, Nate Olive will present a two part hiking event in Summerville, Georgia. At 1 PM, Nate will lead a nature walk from Shelter #2 at Sloppy Floyd State Park, two miles south of Summerville off of US 27. The hike will pass by the Marble Cave on the way up to the Pinhoti Trail and then along scenic Taylor's Ridge on the Pinhoti. This will be an interpretive walk, with Nate pointing out plants useful for campin', eatin', and makin' stuff! Since we will be hiking up to the Pinhoti, this should be considered strenuous, but since there will be a lot of discussion, it won't be too difficult and will end around 5 PM.

Then at 7 PM at the historic Summerville Depot on Washington Street, Nate will tell through exciting and humorous stories, slides and original performance music how he and his hiking friend, Sarah, became the first people in history to "thru-hike" the beaches and headlands of America's sunset coast from Canada to Mexico.

Usually known by his trail name of "Tha Wookie", Nate is an entertaining and inspiring speaker. With some dogwoods still in bloom, this is an event that you don't want to miss. Come by for one or both parts! See http://www.thawookie.com/ for more information on Nate.
Nate's event is sponsored by The Friends of Sloppy Floyd State Park and Bike! Walk! Northwest Georgia (BWNWGA), the biking and walking advisory task force of the Coosa Valley Regional Development Center (CVRDC). For more information, contact Bill Moll at [email protected] or 706-859-7726.

This event is part of a six part hiking and biking series sponsored around the ten-county CVRDC by BWNWGA and local organizations. Other events include April 25 – Betsy Schwartz in Rockmart, May 9 – Ren Davis in Cartersville, May 10 – Tom Johnson in McLemore Cove, May 30 – Joe Kurmaskie in Adairsville and June 20 – Lynette Chiang in Rome. There are also five Walking Lunches and other events scheduled for this spring. For more information, see BWNWGA.org.

    Default Yo

A few people have asked me what they should bring....

just bring comfortable shoes, a camera, water, and a notebook!

Dress warm.... it's still a little chilly in the mountains -at least colder than the Virgin Islands!
