My wife and I stayed in this shelter on the last night of this past summer's section hike. It's a beautiful shelter, nice porch for cooking on, and a loft inside so it will accomodate quite a few people. The only criticizm I have of the place is that there isn't a peg, a hook, a nail, a screw, or anything else to hang up a pack, jacket or other gear on. We mentioned that to the care taker and she said that eveeryone has that same comment and that it has been passed on, as a suggestion, numerous times.

Default kinsman pond shetler in winter

stayed here a few nights ago--Jan. 5--the shelter was surrounded by 1-2 feet of unbroken powder (the Fishin Jimmy Trail was broken out but not the .1 of Kinsman Pond Trail to the shelter). The new shelter design makes for a fairly protected winter night, nice b/c the temps fell to the low single digits. The Pond was completely frozen over and snow covered--very lovely. Fishin' Jimmy is a tough ascent on snowshoes with a full backpack and totally worth it--

There are now a few pegs in the shelter on each side on the lower level, hard to see at first. Lower level had a couple inches of snow on the floor, loft just a trace which was easily swept out.

Anyone know more about this? Someone said they thought it was from a glider crash.

Here is a video about it. It was a glider, and no one was hurt. Sometime in the 70s.
