    Default UL Coffee Maker

I spent months trying to find something like this and I don't know if people know about this but if you're like me you can't get thru the morning without coffee. I've been using it for a month and so far so great. http://www.montbell.us/products/disp...2&p_id=1124510
Hope it helps someone out there.

I'd like to see it OUT of it's bag. Why is it so great? What exactly makes it good for packing?

Lol. Gotta love the skeptics. Besides the fact that it makes coffee, it's ultralight, filter free, and makes coffee. Did I mention it makes coffee?

Is the claimed 4 grams accurate?

Without the case it's about .11oz and with it it's .14oz. There's also a little Montbell label that can be removed i guess if you really want to get the weight down.

Does that include the little sticks on the sides or are you supposed to find those on the trail?

The weight is just for the filter. The picture shows chopsticks but I use tent stakes, though you can fnd twigs to use anwhere on the trail.

Just for the sake of curiousity, why not go with something like Folger's Singles instead of spending $14 plus shipping on something like this? Don't get me wrong, I'm not dissing on your choices if it works for you. Just a simple case of playing Devil's Advocate.

There's a gizmo shaped like a fat spoon with a handle, it opens to hold coffee grounds, and it gets nuked in the mug in a microwave. $2 on sale at a big drugstore. Plastic, screen side panels, light and easy.

Be careful where you put your stakes

I heard somewhere that stumpknocker (and others) use a french press. how, when, where, etc. Has anybody seen one?

Good point but it wouldn't work for me. I like the taste of real coffee. I take it black, no sugar. And I also tend to buy premium coffee blends or expressos, and get them down to a turkish grind which is like a very fine powder. Folger's just doesn't cut it, and I can find a tree and dig a hole near it and put my coffee grounds in, it's great for the soil.

Stumpknocker uses the jetboil with the french press coffee maker attachment.

If it fits in a Jetboil cup, it'll probably fit in a Snowpeak Mini-solo. I haven't tried it but they are the same diameter.

Coffee goes in the bag. Bag goes in the Nalgene with boiled water. Shake or swirl. Rinse and repeat.

I usually give up on coffee in the woods.
