SOBO thru hiker leaving July first

anyone interested in thru hiking from Maine to Georgia leaving early July?

Driftwood, I’m not hiking the AT in 2009 but…I started the AT solo and sobo on July 1, 2007. The night before I stayed in Millinocket, at the Appalachian Trail Hostel, and met two more-than-fun sobo hikers. We climbed Katahdin and camped in Baxter S.P. together. Then I hiked the 100-mile wilderness alone for the most part because I liked to get an early start each morning. In Monson, I met a lot of great hiker people at Shaw’s, including a wonderful woman hiking sobo. She and I eventually hiked the rest of the A.T. together all the way to Springer. My tip for meeting people at Shaw’s …buy a very large pizza at the nearby market and share it with everyone (!). That’s my story. Have fun and I am sure you will find a great hiking partner(s) too. The A.T. is full of them. K.B.

I will be starting on July 1, 2009 as well (SOBO) so maybe we will run into each other...

There will be tons of people already out. I left Katahdin on a section hike on June 10th, and before I was out of the Wilderness I was in a pack of 10-15 SOBOs already. By July, there will be more out there. BTW I have yet to meet a bad SOBOer. You'll meet some great people! Don't worry about hooking up ahead of time...and there was a good mix of guys and gals!
