If you find yourself in a fair fight; your tactics suck.
If not NOW, then WHEN?

I may - have to see what day I have to be back in Ft. Laud for the start of the new semester.
I'm thinkin' I might be here;
Not looking good for me to be on Springer this year. Going to miss seeing everyone.

Appalachian Trail is 35.9% complete.
Was home in Suffern, NY to visit mom after a gall bladder operation (in Rockland County where the AT goes through Harriman and the Bear Mt. area, for those of you who don't know). Was catching up with JB / Bob Davies - he finished the PCT, that tough old guy! Anyway, he may join me at Springer. Its looking good for me to be there - anybody else?

If we decide to come down (and it's along 9 hour drive from here) can we leave a car for the night at the trail head on the forest service road at the base of Springer? We wouldn't have time to park at Amicalola and hike up.

I'm so confused, I'm not sure if I lost my horse or found a rope.
Clear and low in the mid 20's. Daytime highs in the mid 40's and Sunny. No rain in the forecast until Friday, and then clear and sunny for the weekend.
I plan on being on Springer Wed afternoon but will not be overnighting due to my elderly mother being unexpectedly with me at my cabin. However, if anyone is hiking north for a couple of days I will be happy to provide overnight accomodations at Grassy Gap (1.0 miles north of Gooch Gap) and I will be happy to shuttle anyone back to their car at Springer as long as they end their hike at either Lake Winfield Scott (preferred) or Neels (yes that's Neels) Gap or anywhere south of those locations.
PM me for details or we can discuss on Springer.
I am trying to get there and am considering taking a bus on New Years EVe to get to Gainesville.
Anyone heading to Springer via that route?
Bus arrives at 5:20 if I get a ticket, but I will wait to hear someone say something.
I foget, how far is that from Springer?
40 miles?
i was just thinking if you got into gainesville tomorrow eve i could come get you and drop you where ever, but by ny eve we'll already be out in the hills.
Ill be there, hopefully before dark
From Dahlonega follow the signs in town, or just ask directions to Camp Frank Merrill, the Army base.
When you get to the front entrance turn right on a gravel road that may be marked "Cooper Gap Road". FS 28, I think. It goes uphill but you already knew that.
It will cross FS42, not surprisingly, at Cooper Gap. Turn left onto US42. You'll pass by Hightower Gap (one road entering from right) then Winding Stair Gap (cross road) before the Springer parking lot, on the right.
