Default Long Trail in Sept 05

I am planning to hike the Long trail during Sept 2005. Looking at 30 days to complete it.(want to enjoy it) Have not picked a date yet. Any info would be helpful like resupply towns etc.

Get the Long Trail End-to-Ender's Guide from the GMC. It's got all the resupply info. I hiked from Canada to Lincoln Gap in Sept. 03. Resupplied at Johnson, Jonesville/Richmond, and Bristol, though there are other possibilities.

I did the LT in July-August 2001. I had a great time. I started in Dalton, MA, on the AT, and hiked north from there. 300.1 (I think...it's been a while) miles total. Check out my website and journals if you like http://www.newsushi.net/lt.html

Looking at going up and doing it again this summer. I resupplied in Manchester Ctr, Killington, Bristol, and Johnson. I would probably use Jonesville next time (since it's right on the trail). Bristol was a hard hitch. The only reason I got a ride there (and back) was because I was with a girl.

    Default LT Thru

September should be great for a thru-hike. Consider going north to south as then you will ease right into the best foliage at the end of the trip in easier terrain. I have done numerous thru-hikes, both directions, and even in the summer prefer the N to S route. Giving yourself 30 days is also an excellent idea as you will find many spots along the way where you will want to linger, not to mention perhaps waiting out a stretch of bad weather in order to get the best views from Mansfield, Camel's Hump, etc. Resupply I have found works out best in Johnson, Jonesville, Killington, and Manchester Center. The End-to-Enders guide and guidbook both are good to have. There are other small town options, but the distances and hard hitches in my opinion take too much time. The above four listed are spaced just right. Check out the Green Mountain Club web site for more info.

Manchester Center, Killington (Inn at Long Trail), Jonesville and Johnson worked for me. The P.O. addresses can be found in the very helpful end-to-enders guide. Along with nearby places to stay and many other helpful tidbits.

    have fun!

Howie I tried clicking on your photographs and an error message came up. I'm thinking of doing the Long Trail in late October and would like to see those pics.

I hiked the LT from Appalachian Gap to Massachusetts in October 2002. Here is a link to my photos of the hike posted on Trailjournals.com:

I hiked the Long Trail twice and both times I resupplied at 5 places. Going north...Manchester Center, Inn At LT, Bristol, Richmond (Jonesville) and Johnson. The only hard hitch is Bristol. 30 days is plenty of time, have a great trip, wish I was going again. Definitely stay at the Inn, great place and great people.
