I thought I would work up a brief description and explanation of the Appalachian Trail and its counter parts.

The Appalachian National Scenic Trail or as many folks call it the AT is a trail that runs from Georgia to Maine. Currently it is roughly 2176.2 miles in length. This distance changes from year to year due to changes and reroutes of the trail.

The trail is maintained by various trail clubs such as the Appalachian Trail Conservancy (ATC), Appalachian Trail Mountain Club (AMC), Potomac Appalachian Trail Club (PATC) and many more clubs that that would take a whole page to list.

There are thousands of other hiking trails that connect to and branch off from the Appalachian Trail. The Appalachian Trail provides plenty of opportunities for hiking and backpacking. The backpacker has plenty of opportunities to plan their hike ahead of times using books like Appalachian Pages to help plan their trips. The backpacker can turn their trips into short weekend treks or multiple day treks. The trail whether it is for day hikes or long distance hiking will give everyone great scenic views and brings one back to nature. You do not have to backpack the whole trail to experience the AT, simply find a section of the trail and just start walking on it. The Appalachian Mountain Range is some of the most beautiful hiking on the planet. While trekking on any part of the AT you will find yourself in a more relaxing atmosphere.
