    Default Jeffers Brook Shelter

I may be heading up to Glencliff New Hampshire this weekend to see Jonathan at Moonbow and get fitted for a gearskin. I was thinking if it was not to cold I might hike into Jeffers Brook Shelter and spend the night. Does anyone have any recent report on the trail heading into the shelter from Glencliff?

There's a report on Views from the Top as of yesterday for Glencliff to Mousilaukee summit. Packed snow all the way with some icy spots. Claimed snowshoes and crampons were not needed.

Post Follow up after eleven years.

Wow -- it's been over eleven years since anyone has had anything to say about this place.

I'll guess I'll be the one to say that not much has changed. It's still your typical shelter

very close to The Trail; with a fire ring, covered privy, and nearby water source (presently flowing quite nicely).
I was frankly amazed by how clean the place is; I guess the trash hikers, who think they have the right to "carry in, dump where *I* want to", haven't gotten there yet.

The only thing I would add is that, when I was there late last week, two guys had left some VERY nice trail magic. No guarantees, as it could all be gone by now. But if you're nearby, don't bypass the place before you head up Mount Moosilauke.

That shelter is often bypassed by the non-serious hikers because of the ford you have to make (going N bound). There is an alternate road walk, but then you have to back track down to the shelter. I think that helps keep some of the weekenders away. It is a nice place and several good places to tent.

I have two photos in my gallery from 2006 at that shelter; the privy and shelter log.
